According to an article yesterday at npr.org, service dogs are being faked and that can lead to issues for those with a legitimate need. The article states that service dogs are highly trained animals that perform specific tasks for people with disabilities and behave extremely well in public. Fake service dogs are not trained and can sometimes exhibit scared or aggressive behaviors around other people.

Change coming in adult education in Indiana
According to an article in Indiana University's newspaper, the Indiana Daily Student, Indiana is one of the first two states to replace the GED with a new test for people without a high school diploma. Beginning January 2014, the GED test will only be offered online which limits access for many along with its price increase. The new test that will be offered in January in Indiana is the Test Assessing Secondary Completion and will be offered on paper and electronically as well as costing about a third of what the GED will charge.

Interviewing for Qualitative Inquiry
Book Description:
Engagingly written, this book builds the reader's skills for conducting in-depth interviews designed to address a particular research question. With an emphasis on the dynamics of the research relationship, Ruthellen Josselson artfully demonstrates the steps of a successful interview. Each step is illustrated with excerpts from interviews on diverse topics. The book describes how to structure interviews effectively, develop questions that elicit meaningful narratives, cultivate skills for empathic listening and responding, avoid common pitfalls, and deal with problems that develop in an interview.

What's New?
The kids are all back in school. The summer is winding down. But before we put away those flip flops and suntan lotion, let's first take a look at some new items in the library. Last month, CeDIR got in a few new books on the autism spectrum and how to help people with autism succeed. Titles on learning disabilities, intellectual disabilities and cerebral palsy rounded out the list.
